The key ingredient is simple: Communication.

Communication is key. Yes, we've all heard it before - but are you really communicating as a manager? Are you engaging your people and becoming one for a common purpose? And are you getting "it" done?

manage with purpose, with integrity, and with all fairness. Keep a stark focus on your goals and deflect the soft punches. You will be tested, yes. Keep focused and stay true. Communicate your ideas and listen to the ideas of your people, let them communicate with you. YOU WILL FAIL. Eliminate ALL biased as you listen and make decisions that will help you better meet your objectives.

com·mu·ni·ca·tion   /kəˌmyunɪˈkeɪʃən/ Show Spelled[kuh-myoo-ni-key-shuhn]: the imparting or interchange of thoughts, opinions, or information by speech, writing, or signs.

key word: "interchange" of thoughts, opinions, or information - listen closely and the world will be yours. Listen to your people, all of them (not just a few here or there) and communicate to establish your strategy, implement that strategy, and get it done.

let's all stand up and become the leaders of tomorrow, I dare you.

Your best interest at heart,

The Montilla Group

Joel A. Few will want to take their business to the next level, many will want to keep idle and weather the storm, but all will want to ensure that they are in the right position to rebound from the financial meltdown. Below is an excerpt from turnaround.org - a nonprofit organization aimed at turnaround specialist.

"Periods of economic and financial distress pose special challenges to the capabilities and decision-making processes of most professional management teams. Not only do such occurrences increase demands on existing managerial abilities, but they also create a whole new spectrum of legal, accounting, and financial considerations that impact the renewal process. Today’s increased competition, cyclical and volatile financial markets, and economic trends have created a climate in which no business can take stability for granted.

As once-stable, profitable, and competitive companies struggle to improve operational and financial performance, the expertise of corporate renewal professionals is critical to this revitalization process. The chances of successfully navigating the corporate renewal process increases through the use of qualified turnaround professionals, who have the experience and expertise to apply sound practices of turnaround management to failing businesses. While many companies have turned to downsizing as a stopgap measure to improve their economic health, downsizing alone has its own adverse consequences in that it thins the ranks of managers groomed to assume top positions. Moreover, a volatile business environment may turn once-successful, growth-oriented CEOs into hesitant managers who no longer can provide strong leadership during periods of retrenchment.

New lender liability laws also have increased the need for turnaround management. At one time, banks could take control of client companies that were in serious financial peril. Today, courts view this action as equity participation, forcing banks to avoid direct involvement with corporate management. A turnaround specialist, operating as either an interim manager or consultant, may replace a company’s CEO and temporarily take over the decision-making processes of a company to lead it toward stability. Alternatively, a turnaround professional may become an active advisor to a troubled company’s board of directors."

Yes, we are just beginning. But impossible means nothing - it only means it hasn't been done yet. We believe in ourselves, our clients, and our work - previous experiences warrant our ability to move in this direction and we're confident we will continue to gain our supporters vote of confidence.

Joel A. Not saying that the competition was a waste of time, rather that it overlooked the individuals who have had the biggest impact in the entertainment industry - it did the complete opposite of what it was meant to do.

ABC News 20/20 published a great article cover this exact flawed perception, here is the link: www.abcnews.go.com/2020/story?id=123814&page=1

What's the point? Personally, I think competitions are sometimes overrated and can overlook some important factors - long term factors. And it also goes to show the flaws that other people have by judging other people, and the inability for them to find true talent.

The same thing can be said about business competitions. Don't get me wrong - business competitions are good as the allow individuals to flex their muscle, but let's not forget that it is all theoretical and it looks good on paper -- it's all about execution from there.

Much like the winners of Star Search looked good performing on stage at that time, and did nothing to execute their talent in the long run - business and industries alike are weighed mostly by the success of that talent.

Sure, there will be success - but think about it: all the individuals who have had the most impact on this earth did it on their own terms, not on anyone else's.

Take a look at today's most successful individuals: Justin Bieber (who loaded his YouTube Videos on his own), Mark Zuckerberg (who dropped out of college and went against all odds), and all those celebrities who failed on Star Search (Justin Timberlake, Brittney Spears, and Usher *among others) -- a lesson can be learned here...

...it's not always what other people say or how they judge - rather, who much you want your dreams and goals and how convinced you are that you will achieve them. Then, it becomes a challenge to see them fruitate.

Joel A. But don't forget the international implications of the word or phrase you use.

2. You can't please everyone at the same time, so you have to be selective in your strategy.

2 vs. 12 is lopsided and the 12 seems more ideal than 2 - so in a sense, the 2 at times will be outweighed and might even by disappointed by your decision. Stick to it.

We milk the cows for the nutrition they give - we don't ask the cows if they like what we do because the benefits outweigh the negatives.

Keep an open mind in business and remember to keep everyones ideas, thoughts, and decisions in consideration when strategizing your plan - but remember, at times you will have to milk the cow and disregard what the cows thinks about you doing so.

Joel A. Don't forget to be adaptable - these two variables are very similar, but one is more detrimental than the other.

I gave a presentation last week. A presentation that had been in the works for over 6 months. Not in the actual preparation which only took 6 hours, but the overall strategy identification that would make this meeting one of the best and most important ones of this particular organization. The exact details would be another blog in in itself.

As much as I practiced, I couldn't prepare for what came up during this presentation. I was put to the test and the overall objective of this unknown variable was to test my ability to deliver on my promises and to test my leadership within the organization. Keep in mind, this was in front of 15 other individuals who came to this meeting to hear me talk - the same individuals who we have been working on for the last 3 months. I almost fumbled, but then remembered that I was the one behind this strategy, so there was nothing that I couldn't respond to - whether I knew the answer or not. I had to step up to the challenge to ensure both the synergy and overall objectivity were kept in line.

this kind of situation happens all the time. It is important to identify fish out of water and know how to handle them accordingly. If it goes undetected, your meeting and/or presentation could take on a different objective that you had initially planned on.

So don't be afraid, step up to the challenge and identify your variables when doing business and/or giving a presentation - more importantly when fish is out of water. After all, fish out of water could potentially die...

Joel A. Even the most successful individuals have never gone with complete strangers into their visions - usually it is with an old roommate, a college friend, or a childhood friend: all elements that take the "personalization" into account. The ability to know and feel the best synergy for the task at hand. Take Google, Apple, Microsoft, Coca-Cola, and all other big house companies for example - all of which teamed up to make it happen. They didn't interview for the positions, no, that was later introduced as a way to build off of their success. Remember, the term "employees" has only been around 100 years, before than it was referred to as the "wage slaves".

Take for example my previous blog dated March 4, 2010 - where I gave my observation on "Undercover Boss", CBS's new reality TV show. What it proves is that companies have taken 1 single way of hiring talent for their business and decision making processes. Undercover boss actually shows the untapped potential within the organization, those that lie among the bottom level employee. These companies are on the forefront of a movement, and one that is a result of previous standard business models.

I had the distinguished pleasure of watching Gary Hamel give a presentation on the new ways of doing business where he stresses "engagement" among other things. I believe this to be true because of the importance of people coming together for a common purpose, and the value of proper nurturing a teams diversity.

On the other hand, it is obvious the individuals who have proven themselves on paper and have been put in the position of power. Those same individuals obviously lacked the soft skills needed to keep us out of this mess.

So a word of advice to CEO's, COO's, Founders, Presidents, and other decision makers (even the small business owner) - keep a open mind when looking to create a team who will help you drive your mission and your vision, it isn't always the individuals who look good on paper - it could be the janitor who cleans for a living.

Joel A. He sees things that his other executive team leaders try to downplay or even ignore. He pokes at them for information and asks them personal questions that help him better get to know these individuals -- the individuals who are on the forefront of his company.

Eventually the boss has them picked up and brought to headquarters, where he surprises them and tells them who he is. He promises them certain changes, and most of the time, he either promotes the individuals he was working with or he gives them higher positions within the organization.

What it proves:
It proves that sometimes the "standard" way of conducting an interview is NOT innovative or creative, nor does it extract the "best" suited individuals for certain positions. Sometimes, standard norms create walls between those of great importance and those in leadership position within the organization

In a sense, the employees are interviewing right before the CEO without knowing it. They're in their own skin and are comfortable engaging with him/her and talking about their strengths, weaknesses, or personal problems with corporate --the CEO's hear in the raw, INVALUABLE information that up until know has gone unnoticed or under appreciated. Had these individuals been asked to interview accordingly, they probably would have not gotten the positions that a simple conversation did.

Kudos to Undercover Boss and doing what other company or CEO's have been afraid to do --get down to the bottom of their organization and hear it for what it is.

I think it safe to say that this new way of conducting internal marketing will forever change the game and I would encourage all companies to try this or a similar technique in their own company....

Joel A. We (or someone you know) throws a get together and things never go "accordingly"? All to many...

RSVP's don't work like they are suppose to: Some people show up, others don't, and maybe you might see some faces that you never thought of seeing.

I say this through experience both at my last job and my current project with One Brick (a 501(c)(3) non profit ogranization), as well as a networking event I attended last week. It's always a mix of those who have RSVP and those who haven't.

Having people RSVP just overpromises and underdelivers.

I personally don't like them. I think it is more effective to let your invitees know how much you would personally like them there, and if the personalization isn't possible, empower your network to personalize it themselves.

So next time you throw a gathering, get together, or a simple celebration (a free one of course), I wouldn't count on the RSVP's --just make it your mission to personally reach out to as many people as you can and extend the invitation. Wang, Keith Miller and myself are the founders of the Orlando Chapter. TMG was responsible for the strategic portion of the penetration strategy. It launched this month on Feb. 9, 2010.

"Headquartered in San Francisco, California, One Brick is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that brings volunteers together to support other local non-profits by adopting an innovative twist to the volunteer experience: we create a friendly and social atmosphere around volunteering, and after each volunteer event --which typically lasts only 3 to 4 hours -- we invite volunteers to gather at a local restaurant or café where they can get to know one another in a relaxed social setting.
Our 'commitment-free volunteering' allows you to choose when you volunteer, rather than having to make commitments for a certain number of volunteer hours, or agree to be available every week at a specific time." -OneBrick.org

Mission Statement: One Brick provides support to local non-profit and community organizations by creating a unique, social and flexible volunteer environment for those interested in making a concrete difference in the community. We enable people to get involved, have an impact and have fun, without the requirements of individual long-term commitments.

There's 6 chapters nation wide: Chicago, DC, MPLS/ST. Paul, New York, San Francisco, and Seattle...with Orlando being #7 --lucky #7 =]...check us out: OneBrick.org.

I think you'll like what we are doing, it's pretty cool. We hope that everyone can be a part of it.

The model we developed has been a huge success! In our first 7.3 years, a team of 600 volunteer Event Managers, Technology Developers, Marketers and Fundraisers has grown the organization to over 57000 volunteers, spanning the San Francisco Bay Area, the New York Metropolitan Area, Chicago, Washington DC and Minneapolis.

To date, One Brick has completed 6,987 events, delivering 271,878 hours of community service!

If you're in Orlando, we invite you to join us --you'll see what all the hype is about.

TMG is excited and honored to be part of a movement that deeply impacts the community, while making it easier and more sociable than before. Thank you One Brick, and the communities who help make this what it is today.

Orlando, we look forward to serving you...

*Facebook - One Brick Orlando
*Twitter: Onebrickorlando
*The Web: http://orlando.onebrick.org/
*Email: Orlando@onebrick.org

Joel A. Everyone and their mothers does marketing and offers the best marketing around --but is that true?

One thing to consider is that no two strategies or situations are ever the same. If we take a look at the sports world, we can learn a thing or two. A multi-billion dollar market and no one ever knows what will truly happen. Yet, millions and millions of dollars are spent trying to be the best that year. The outcome is determined on the day in which the teams meet, and the same thing that keeps America coming back for more.

For example: on paper, the Colts looked to be the favorites. However, we all know that wasn't the case --The Saints reigned as Super Bowl Champs.

They didn't listen to what the world was saying regarding their chances, they just went out and did what they had to do --proving to be champions and proving the world wrong...let's not forget how they did it: 4 broken records and an interception to pretty much end the game.

Same thing in Marketing. Sometimes you just have to go out and play your heart out regardless of what you are being told.

"In the moment" marketing is a term I like to use. One can study, research, and/or read case studies to try and help them figure out what to do (similar to reading a play book or watching video in sports), but no one can truly determine what needs to be done "in the moment" --thus "in the moment marketing".

That's the beauty of this moment, we live it together. So all you managers and marketing professionals, get ready for game day as if the game hasn't been played yet --cause in all reality, it hasn't.

Joel A. Look at your finger print --there has nor will there ever be two of the same.

Now that's something special!

So embrace your beautiful self, get comfortable in your skin and welcome the world before you.

Joel A. Many people don't think that manners mean anything while exchanging information over the Internet, but there are certain protocols that business people and/or individuals should follow.

Just like you behave in the real world, you should behave in that manner when conducting business online via email.

From hitting the "Reply All" button, to including every one's visible email when "mass emailing", these are all common mistakes made on a daily basis.

One person's email is the equivalent to their personal number, so don't give it out freely --and more importantly, keep it confidential when including others in the email.

There's a certain level of respect you want to provide to those who you interact with virtually, and there are also levels of courtesy you want to exchange with them.

Spell their names right and answer in a prompt manner (I'm guilty as charged of not doing these two) and think of how your actions are being portrayed on the other end. Put yourself in the shoes of the recipient.

Just like you wouldn't call a person during their evening hours or on a holiday, don't email them. Wait until the next morning or afternoon --unless you are emailing to wish them happy holidays or whatever the occasion is. And if it's a Sunday, wait until Monday or even Tuesday to send your email. Hint: Many people like to end their weekends relaxing and preparing for the week ahead, the last thing they want to do is read a business related email. And think about the work week: Monday's are usually the busiest day of the week, so chances your email gets the attention it deserves are minimal at best --this is what I mean by being "strategic" in your attempts.

Besides, if you send the email on a weekend, holiday, or on a Monday --it will probably get stuck in their junk mail, or simply get overlooked --but if you're like me, you'll probably get them on your phone and read them quickly, and then forget about them.

Think of email as a phone and the way you conduct yourself within. Keep them short and simple, and keep focus at the point at hand. Respecting all the variables you would in person or over the phone --trust me, it will work to your advantage.

Of course, if it's an emergency, go ahead an email. But if it can wait, then wait.

Be careful when you send emails and be careful what you say in them --there's a paper trial when dealing with emails.

Netiquette, like etiquette should be practiced on a daily basis.

Joel A. We also know the story of Clark Kent --the mild-manner reporter imbued with a strong moral compass as a child.

Here he is, a man with all the super human powers, yet he so desperately tries to be "normal" and blend in with all of society.

He had powers the we, as human, wouldn't know what to do with. Yet, he chose to use it to the benefit of humanity as a whole. He could've easily wore his blue/red suit everyday to demand respect from those around him, but he didn't. He chose to be humble and lead when the situation called for it, and remain humble when there wasn't a need for a "leader" --rather an understanding and empathy for those who surrounded him.

All leaders across the world could learn a thing or two from this comic's character (which I believe is a great metaphor for future leaders to dwell upon), and all leaders should reflect on their own ways of leading.

The time of new ways of leadership is long past due, as the evidence is before us.

The world as we know it has been affected by "standard" and "norms" that we, as Americans, have introduced. Our global markets have been affected, and the world as we know it is looking for ways out of this recession.

What I say is that we need to aim for the future with a different perspective. Leaders need to learn how to tone it down a notch and "blend in" when it is necessary. Eliminate the iron fist and work towards synergy within your respective corporation --whether it by small business or large corporations.

Bosses need to better understand their employees and customers, and stop trying to push their "views" upon their people --only making the workforce rebel against these methods and consumers reject their products and/or services. Parents need to see the world through their children's eyes and relate, quit implementing your stark protocols and learned to listen --of course, keep discipline in mind --both Professionally and personally.

The world needs more Superman's and Superwomen --let's step up to the challenge and change our tomorrow.

Joel A. Read that book.

A conversation can really teach you things that no classroom can. We can't retain all of the information available in the word, so basically let us converse with the people we interact with on a daily basis. Learning something new everyday, every moment.

Either way you look at it, you learn something --bad or good. Not sure what the lesson will be, but there will be one. This brings into perspective the spirit of the human being.

At a time when the world needs us, we respond in unity. Regardless of skin color, location, or agenda --we are focused on the aid of these people.

Let this be a lesson learned in human behavior, and let it be a reminder that there is a need for unity. We are constantly drawing "invisible lines" in the sand and in our daily lives. Let us find unity.

Especially us - A country that is divided on whether or not it is best to help it's own people by imposing taxes on the rich, gives $100 million to this humanitarian aid --and for the most part, everyone is ok with that. Let's wake up. We're full of ourselves. We're all the same people, same planet, same human race.

Quit giving yourself reason to harbour ill-conceived notions of those around you, and start to get to know the world around you.

One life to live --there are no re-takes.

Joel A. But if used incorrectly, it could depreciate you in value.

Meaning, there's a variable that goes undected --The Environment.

A person's environment plays an intricate part in the thought process; from different scenes, colors to smells and visual aids in the picture. It's no different in an online world.

I don't have tweetdeck but I have read about the concept and seen others use it. Personally, when I am going from social to social websites --updating, researching, socializing, networking-- I become that site.

Example, when I am in Linkedin, I tend to think in retrospect of a professional networking. My status updates, discussions, and bio reflect that. I am constantly reminded by the actual website itself. My discussions and thought process are constantly in line through the reminder of my environment.

When I am on Facebook, I tend to be more relax. Thinking in terms of sociable, I think "personal branding". I communicate and chat with others and when I hear the "pop" sound, I know it's small talk. I am reminded by the blueish-white background of where I am and my thought process accommodates just that.

With Twitter, I think professional branding. The simplicity of it all reminds me of the elements that capture attention in the era of communication: simplicity and overall delivery, while promoting 140 characters of communication.

Overall, I think tweetdeck is great for multi-tasking, but it takes away from the person-to-site interaction. I would simply advise those who use it to jump on the site they want to interact and "play the part".

Joel A. Most people are afraid of them and to many, it sends shivers down their back.

Most kids find them scary and many adults stay away from them, keeping in mind the diseases that can be spread through these rodents.

Many mice are used for clinical purposes (as experimental animals), and few are actually used as pets. Mice can at times be harmful rodents, spreading diseases through their feces and paracites, cause structural damage, and at times they damage crops.

However, a certain individual we all know disregarded the image of this pesty rodent and executed what I like to call "Exact Marketing". Meaning, he was able to take something that many were scared of and turn it into something powerful --so powerful that every continent has accepted his views of mice and actually bring their families to indulge in everything this mice represents.

I'm sure we're all firmiliar with Mr. Walt Disney and the symbol behind the universal playground for both children and adults --Disney World.

This is a perfect example of great marketing. Mr. Disney didn't conduct research groups to see how people viewed his logo, nor did he conduct research to see what people thought about mice. Had he done this, we wouldn't have Disney World today. Instead, he implemented what he wanted to promote as his symbol and stuck by it.

As a true testimant in his ability to stay true to his views and goals, he went forward with ideas to incorporate a mouse into his theme park.

Today, Disney World grosses over $35 billion dollars a year. And worldwide, people become ecstatic at the thought of going to Disney.

So next time you hear your favorite athlete say "I'm going to Disney" after winning a big championship, think about that small little rodent that at one point had no potential and the man who made it a house hold name.

Joel A. But we tend to dwell on the red lights and complain, wanting to get past it and go on with life. Sometimes we might even pass a few green lights without ever noticing them.

Just like in the example above, we tend to dwell on the bad things that happen to us in life --forgetting all the "green" lights that are part of our everyday.

We live life on the fast lane and we tend to forget all the good and overshadow it with the bad. It's only normal for us to behave in that manner, but it is something we can all change. Life is simply a set of actions and your reactions to those situations.

Next time you feel a bad situation has overtaken your attitude and/or your thoughts, simply think about the green lights that you constantly pass throughout your day, and forget those red lights once you go past them.

Joel A. In a world that is designed to guide you along your journey in life, the power lies within those who make it their own. Your thoughts can have a drastic affect in how you live life, thus enabling you to either grow into your full potential or fall short of your goals.

So take the opportunity to think about your goals, dreams, or aspirations when you make decisions today, and once those decisions are made, stick to them.

You can change your life by changing your attitude, by taking the bad with the good and the good with the bad --knowing it will all soon pass. For the non-profits, it offers the much needed labor to carry out their vision. And for the volunteers, it fosters an environment in which to meet new people, both socially and professionally.

One Brick currently has chapters in the San Francisco Bay Area, New York City, Chicago, DC and Minneapolis/St Paul - with plans to expand soon to other major cities. With over 30,000 volunteers across the country, One Brick today organizes over 100 volunteer events a month, delivering more than 50,000 hours of volunteer impact directly to the more than 600 nonprofits they serve, entirely free of cost to the nonprofit. Our projects are designed to deliver critical services to address homelessness and hunger, the environment, animals, the arts, health, youth and education, and community.

www.OneBrick.org
"Volunteering Made Easy. Social mediums such as Craigslist and facebook have been used to help create a buzz. The results have been overwhelming and it seems we have found a demand for this type of program right here in Central Florida.

OBO (One Brick Orlando) is in its "initial" phase right now, with hopes of launching soon. Bruce Wang is behind the vision of this program and together him and I have taken on the challenge to bring One Brick to Orlando. We are honored and privileged to be at the forefront of this movement and look forward to enabling people like you to engage in public service. Two events have taken place in the last two weeks and we are averaging 5 volunteers per event, something we are proud of thus far. We hope to continue this wave of success and look forward to providing our community with the opportunity to get things done with ease.

Check us out on Facebook ( Pre-Launch One Brick Orlando) and on Twitter (@onebrickorlando) for updates on events and other opportunities to get involved.

God bless all,

Joel A. Time is of a variable in this equation called life, it has easily become a precious commodity which most of us take for granted. I am guilty as charged in doing so. We spend most of our time focused on the "then" over the "now", and lose focus of the basics. Simple communications becomes morse code, and subconsciously, we tend to rely on communication that lacks the verbiage which we depend on. The universal language of the body remains in tact, and sometimes it becomes a mixed message. The challenge comes when we acknowledge that and begin to work towards a better flow of information from the inside out, as we do from the outside in. Acknowledging that fact is only the beginning, it's the implementation stage that is the most crucial.

We start with ourselves. Start by viewing the world from the outside in. How people view us, how our messages are conveyed, and how our actions develop who we are and all that surrounds us. Promote others before you promote yourself and gain an interest for other peoples feelings, as well as who the really are. It is then that you will see the true beauty in the world that surrounds you, slowly uncovering the blindfold which has been placed over your eyes by "societal norms". Start working on the small things that eventually become habit, and get on the routine of learning something new everyday.

On a personal note, I have been taken back to my last blog and what was said on it. I mentioned a "new pair of eyes", meaning a new perspective. I am unemployed and still working towards law school; studying and applying. The days drag out and not much is on my agenda. I've had time to reflect and look at things differently, from personal, spiritual, to intellectual and professional. When one is busy doing the things they "must" do, and living so frivolous, much time elapses and we tend to stand on the mountain top, forgetting what the valley looks like from the floor up. I have been given that humble opportunity, and I am greatful for just that. Sometimes it's what we need in our life, it's something I've needed.

“Success builds character, failure reveals it” - David Checkett

I am looking inside me and seeing what I am truly made up of. I have been stripped from all that I have known and have been put in a position where others around me will be challenged along with me. It's the culmination of the next few months that will teach me another one of life's lessons, and reveal to me what it is that I am made of and how I will evolve as a new person. The time is now. This is me communicating to the world.

God Bless to All,

Joel A. I have had the opportunity to sit back and reflect on my decisions and what has become of them. Time to sit and think about where I stand and what needs to be done in the next minute to determine the rest of my life.

Since my last post, I have dissected my future career goals and what needs to be done in order to make that happen. I have also been given an opportunity to look at life through a different pair of eyes. A pair that isn't skewed nor biased, but one that will help me achieve greatness.

As I continue developing as a man and an individual, I continue learning. To be honest, this blog alone is taking me a long time to write. I'm still trying to get out of the writer's block, not to mention the inexperience of blogging. But like we do in life, we must continue pushing forward and go for it. Become all that you want simply by changing your next decision. Your thoughts become your doings and decisions become easier to make. The inner you knows you better than you know yourself, so I'd recommend going for it. I did with this block and now I'm ready to go.

Self-Actualization –noun Psychology. the achievement of one's full potential through creativity, independence, spontaneity, and a grasp of the real world.

Welcome challange and change, push yourself to the limits to see who you really are. It's the development stage that is the best, after that is just smooth sailing being you. Trust in your gut feeling and do things you haven't done before, take a grasp of the real world.

We have been conditioned to follow certain protocols and rules about life, but we forget that the most infulential humans, most memorable, most successful have all been individuals who have challanged everything that has happend to them, all the rules that govern their decisions, and came out on top. Don't be afraid to fail. Don't be afraid to take that next second of your life and make it yours.

God Bless all, I will be writing more soon.

Joel A. An amature at blogging but an expert in expressing myself through the use and mixture of 36 letters which we have deemed our "alphabet". I figured now that I have plenty of time to myself, I should indulge and see what comes from it.

My first blog: This one's for you Bruce Wang.

I have always wondered about blogging and the gains that come from doing so. It's evident the personal satisfaction one gains from expressing themselves in words, and sometimes it is much easier to do just that. Words have the power to make someone feel a certain way, or maybe even allow for someone to relate to those who have similar stories to tell. I've always considered myself a veteran in the art of writing, but no expert in the social medium which has so abruptly taken over our society. I have a way with words and filling those words with emotion. This is my chance to hone my skills and receive feedback while doing so. So I encourage anyone who reads my blogs to respond and give feedback (good or bad).

I mentioned in my opening paragraph that I have recently been laid off from my job. I was the Director of Marketing and Development at Quinco Electrical, Inc. A job I was fortunate enough to obtain right before my graduation from The University of Central Florida. At a time when all of my colleagues were graduating and being denied employment, I prevailed. I got the job through an old contact of mine, someone who was part of my network for quite some time. I had no experience whatsoever and the only intern experience I had was for a law firm. An intern in the legal industry lacked the preparation that was needed to take on the job at Quinco. None-the-less, I jumped into my position with ears, mind and eyes opened. It was a one man division who was responsible for all of the marketing aspects of a multi-million dollar company. The experiences were great and the lessons were profound. I had no real training and most of the job was mine to develop; a task I proudly say was achieved.

Many months passed and I was gaining a desire to become more, to do more. Something within me was telling me that I need to continue moving forward. The industry itself wasn't one that I saw myself making a career out of, let alone in a market in which we were competing. So it was only a matter of time before we both turned the page, meaning The Quinco Family and myself. I have no regrets in my approach nor do I have any animosity for the lay-off. I understand decisions have to be made, and if they didn't pull the trigger, I was going to. Which would've resulted in me losing the opportunity to gain unemployment and seek employment elsewhere. I know that my God was watching after me, as he so patiently does time-and-time again.

This is my story to tell and you are all hearing straight from the horses mouth. Listen closely...

A month later, I am at a moment in my life where I feel all the pieces are falling into the right place. Yes, I am unemployed and was denied admission to law school. But I couldn't feel better about my future. Trust me, great things are about to come my way. I have to know that and know that with the good comes the bad. Hence, my situation as we speak.

I have had time to think about my future and how I was going to tie it all together. I have a degree in Marketing and I want to pursue a Juris Doctorate from a local law school. I don't want to become a lawyer nor do I want a career in just marketing. "Crazy" many might think, but I know deep down in my heart I will obtain all of my goals, many of which I have been working towards since the summer of 2003. I have had an idea to start my own company, working for myself, but under different peoples company's. I want to become a "Turnaround Specialist".

http://www.rnseidman.com/lawart.htm

Technically, I have had 2 clients and currently working on my third. First, I was hired by Quinco Electrical, Inc. to help get them to the next level. To brand and re-position them among the best in their respective industry. That stint lasted 14 months. Second, Murals and Fine Art is a small business that is up and coming. The owner of that company was seeking ways to reach a broader market and capture substantial market share. After 5 months of collective efforts, she is on the road she wanted to be on. Doing what she likes and gaining a reputation for her work. Third, Orlando Window Tint Specialists is looking to expand into new markets and they want to sell to bigger end consumers. I have been brought on board to help them reach that level.

As it becomes evident, I have had a niche to help others and coach them with their business. Although an amature, I would suggest that I have the proper foundation of that to build off of. Again, I wouldn't know. I have simply started my voyage. 27 yrs old, but I am just learning how to crawl.

Keep your ears open, more blogs to come.

Thank you all and God Bless,

Joel A. Montilla
Aspiring "Turnaround Specialist"
MontillaGroup@Gmail.com

Joel A.
